The House Jacks' Spring 2008 European Tour

This map project shows the venues where the a cappella rock band, The House Jacks, performed on their 2008 Spring European Tour. As a member of the band, I had the opportunity to travel all over Germany and parts of Switzerland and Austria, experience the culture of all those different regions, and perform in a variety of different kinds of venues. The tour consisted of 17 concerts in 17 days in 17 different cities, and often times there required quite a bit of driving from one show to the next.

The map has markers for Frankfurt Airport and every town where The House Jacks performed a concert. The concert markers are labeled with letters in the order that the concerts occurred. There are also lines following the route taken from every city to the next, with a color classification based on the time it takes to travel on that route. Clicking on a marker will show photos and give info on the happenings of that day.

The map is also animated, starting with a blank map and gradually adding each day's venue and travel in order to give the map reader a better sense of the sequencing than given by the lettering on the city markers. By implementing the animation, the user gains a more comprehensive sense of the magnitude of the travel that occurred on this tour with much less time and effort that it would take on a static map.

IMPORTANT: To view the markers and animation, press the play button at the top right of the screen. The speed of the animation can be controlled by clicking the clock button left of the timeline bar.
